Thomas Cook (India) was acquired by the Dubai Investment Group in January 2006. The Company has adopted an acquisition led growth plan involving retail expansion and spread of business risk beyond foreign exchange and travel services.

In June 2006, Thomas Cook (India) and the LKP Group entered into a non-binding memorandum of understanding to explore the amalgamation of LKP Forex Limited with Thomas Cook (India) through a scheme of amalgamation to be approved by the shareholders of the Companies, the regulatory authorities and the Bombay High Court. In January 2007 the Bombay High Court approved the amalgamation of the two companies post which all the existing LKP branches will function as full-fledged branches of Thomas Cook (India)

In December 2006 Thomas Cook (India) acquired the entire shareholding of Travel Corporation (India) Pvt. Ltd. (TCI) in an all cash deal. Post acquisition TCI became a wholly owned subsidiary of Thomas Cook (India).

Thomas Cook (India) Ltd. presently operates in over 52 cities across almost 180 locations in the country. The company has overseas operations in Sri Lanka which is a branch of Thomas Cook India and Mauritius which is subsidiary of Thomas Cook (India).

Thomas Cook (India) employs over 2500 resources with a Income from Operations base of Rs. 2862 million ($US 72 Mn) for the calendar year 2007. The company is also listed on both the Bombay Stock Exchange as well as the National Stock Exchange.

In a recent announcement, Thomas Cook Group plc, a Company listed on the London Stock Exchange with a Market Capitalisation of close to US$ 6 billion, and the second largest Travel Group in Europe, had announced their decision to acquire Thomas Cook (India) Limited from Dubai Financial Group LLC (DFG). This acquisition is in line with TCG's strategy to enter India, which is one of the fastest growing markets for travel. The benefits to Thomas Cook (India) Limited will be the continued use of the Thomas Cook brand name and access to the Global Network of TCG.
