How to Reach Agra By Bus

Agra has two major bus stands which serve interstate buses – Idgah Bus Stand and ISBT. Both are not too far from the Taj Mahal and buses from cities like Delhi, Kanpur, Lucknow, Gwalior and Jaipur come here regularly. There are also regular buses from Delhi to Agra which often begin from Anand Vihar terminus in Delhi.

How to Reach Agra By Road

The distance from Delhi to Agra is 3 to 4 hours and people often choose to drive down to Agra once they reach Delhi. Agra is connected to Delhi by NH2 and to Jaipur by NH11. Since it is located in the Golden Triangle of the tourist circuit, travelling to Agra by road is considered a popular option. The Taj Expressway which connects Agra to Delhi by Greater Noida is supposed to be among the best roads in India, turning the road trip into a remarkable journey. Travelling to Agra by road from cities like Jaipur, Gwalior, Lucknow and Kanpur is a widely chosen option as well. In winter months, however, travelling by road, particularly the expressway in the early morning or late night, is not recommended as the dense fog can lead to accidents.

How to Reach Agra By Air

Travelling to Agra by air is not a popular option as Agra’s Kheria Airport is a seasonal airport and is also a military base. It doesn’t have scheduled commercial flights and there are only Air India flights from New Delhi. Kheria Airport is around 12km away from the city center and you can hire a taxi to reach the city after alighting at the airport. The flight from Delhi to Agra is less than an hour long. Most people prefer to fly to the nearby Delhi Airport from where they can either hire a taxi or get a bus to reach Agra. Other nearby airports are Jaipur and Lucknow airports. The most popular option remains the Delhi airport for international and domestic visitors.

How to Reach Agra By Rail

Agra has five railway stations. The main ones are Agra Cantonment, which is the main station, Agra Fort Railway Station, Agra City, Idgah Railway Station and Raja ki Mandi. Cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Gwalior among others are well connected to Agra by regular trains. Agra Cantonment is popular because it’s close to the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. Those who get down here can get an auto-rickshaw, taxis or even hail cycle rickshaws to take them to see the famed Taj. Agra Fort Railway Station is also one of the oldest railway stations in India and you can get trains to various destinations from here. If you are on one of the luxury trains like Palace on Wheels or Royal Rajasthan on Wheels, you will find them stopping in Agra too. Other popular trains that stop in Agra are Punjab Mail, Malwa Express and Bhopal Express, to name a few. Because of the number of trains and convenience, the railway is a popular option to travel to Agra.

By Walking
This is considered to be one of the best ways to travel around Agra. Nothing beats seeing the sights on foot.
