One is the southwest monsoons, and the other is the northeast monsoon. The southwest monsoon brings showers to the west-facing slopes and two deltas in the country. However, the popular time to visit Vietnam can be in Spring and Autumn which are from February to April and August to October respectively. During this period, the temperatures are not very warm, and there is very light rainfall. When it comes to Spring, there is deficient rainfall in March and April, which makes the atmosphere pleasant.

Spring in Vietnam

Spring starts in February and ends in April.

Temperature: In Southern Vietnam, the temperatures range between 20 to 30 degrees Celsius and can go as high as 40 degrees Celsius in March. The same temperature prevails in Central Vietnam. However, in North Vietnam, the temperatures can fall as low as 10 degrees Celsius. 

Weather: It is sweltering and humid in Southern Vietnam. In Central Vietnam, it is specifically cooler. Whereas in North Vietnam, the days are very cold with some rainy days and the temperature dropping to freezing points at some points. 

Significance: Vietnamese New Year or Tet Festival is conducted during this period. 

Why you should visit now: It is the perfect time to visit the beaches and islands of the southern part of Vietnam, like the Phu Quoc and Con Dao Archipelago, or even the Dalat waterfalls. You can also visit the ancient town Hoi An in Central Vietnam or the beaches of Nha Trang. 

Know before you visit: Though there is a lot of humidity, there won't be rains during this period. 

Tips: Pack warm clothes if you plan to visit northern Vietnam. 

Summer in Vietnam

Summer starts in May and extends until August

Temperature: The temperatures in northern Vietnam and Hanoi hit a maximum of 30 degrees Celsius, which can lead to 40 degrees in central and southern Vietnam. 

Weather: The entire south part is wet during this season with patches of lush greenery and heat waves. This is probably the wettest and hottest season in Vietnam. 

Significance: There is the Ghost Festival in August that you cannot miss. 

Why you should visit now: It is the best time to visit the northern hills, as the slight rains create a lively atmosphere amidst the verdant lands. 

Know before you visit: Hue and Hoi An are the most pleasant places to visit in Vietnam during the summer. 

Tips: Carry a waterproof, light rain gear to guard yourself against the heat and rain. 

Autumn in Vietnam

Autumn starts in September and extends until November

Temperature: The average temperature during this season throughout Vietnam ranges between 20 degrees to 25 degrees Celsius.

Weather: This is the peak rainy season in central Vietnam. In northern Vietnam, it is pretty cold with humid temperature in southern Vietnam 

Significance: There are the folkloric Ooc Om Boc festival and the National Day which you can't miss. 

Why you should visit now: It is the best time to visit the south part, as all the rains get relatively dried up with cool temperatures, which make it the best time to visit places like Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta. 

Know before you visit: This is the best time to go for hiking the mountain ranges of Sapa located in the far North. 

Tips: Carry warm clothes if you want to visit the higher altitudes, or else carry light and breathable clothes. 

Winter in Vietnam

Winter starts in the month of December and extends until February.

Temperature: The temperatures range between 20 degrees to 26 degrees Celsius all over the country. 

Weather: The winters are very dry with almost little or no rainfall in the south and North Vietnam. However, in the far northern areas like Sapa, there is rainfall and traces of snow.

Significance: There are many dragon dances, fireworks, and musical performances in the country during the Tet festival, that you cannot miss. 

Why you should visit now: It is the best time to visit southern and northern Vietnam, as there is less rainfall with considerably cool temperatures. 

Know before you visit: There is snowfall in the Sapa area, so make sure you head there if you love snow. 

Tips: Bring all your warm clothes to Vietnam in winters as the temperatures can drop very low. Also, carry light clothes if you want to travel to places that are around Hanoi.
