The islands lose their tranquil side and strong winds and thunderous waves buffet all sides. The torrential rain and the undulating seas make it impossible to cross the waters to reach Lakshadweep islands. Therefore, travel to Lakshadweep in monsoon is not the best time to visit for a holiday, the weather of Lakshadweep in monsoon makes it an impossible time to visit.

All is not lost though: you can still visit the beautiful islands of Bangaram and Agatti which are serviced by direct flights from Kochi. Traveling between the islands is only possible with helicopters. Unfortunately, the helicopters are restrained by the weather and cannot take you to the other islands during the rainy season.

Significant events: Lakshadweep has a predominantly Muslim population. It does celebrate some tribal festivals, the most prominent ones that you can enjoy are those that reflect the customs of this faith.

Id-Ul-Fitr is celebrated in August and is considered to be the most important festival celebrated throughout the year. The festival is a celebration of sighting the first new moon after the month of Ramadan – the month of fasting. The month ends on Id-Ul-Fitr and the day is commemorated by people visiting mosques to offer their prayers and reciting holy sermons. Huge feasts are organised at homes, and friends and relatives are invited over to partake in the festivities.

Bakri Eid is yet another significant festival for Muslims. This day indicates the last day of a devotee’s religious journey to Mecca. From that day on began the tradition of sacrificing a goat on this day.
