How to Reach grindelwald

How to Reach By Air

Grindelwald is a village and has no direct airport access. The nearest international airport is Zurich and once you land here, it takes around 2.5 hours to reach Grindelwald by car and around 3 hours by train. The airport in Basel is also often used to reach Grindelwald and it takes around 3 hours to travel from there. Another option that tourists use when trying to travel to Grindelwald is to fly to Bern airport.  It takes an hour to reach Grindelwald from here.

How to Reach By Road

Driving down to Grindelwald is not a problem at all. In fact, it is one of the few holiday resorts that can be reached by car. Irrespective of which direction you’re coming from, you can take Highway A6 or A8 to travel to Interlaken. From here, you can exit at Wilderswil. The main road from here will lead you to the gorgeous resort of Grindelwald

How to Reach By Rail

It’s possible to get international train connections to Interlaken-Ost and from there, you have to change trains to the BOB (Berner Oberland Bahn)-train which will take you to Grindelwald. It takes around 35 minutes to reach Grindelwald from Interlaken.

Getting around in Grindelwald

By Train : There are two stations in Grindelwald – Grindelwald and Grund. The former is in the middle of the village and the other is on the way to Kleine Scheidegg. Most of the Wengernalpbahn trains which are painted yellow and green stop at both stations. The BOB trains which are in blue and yellow will stop only at Grindelwald Station. Although it’s possible to walk between these two stations as they are just 1km apart, there’s quite a bit of vertical elevation to consider.

By Bus : There are local buses which let you travel to nearby destinations.

By Foot : Since Grindelwald is not a very big village, it’s possible to walk to most places.

By Gondola : If you want to travel to the mountain, there are gondola lifts and cable cars which take you to various points of interest. A gondola to Männlichen leaves near Grund Station while another to First is near Grindelwald Station. There’s a cable car to Pfingstegg which is also near Grindelwald Station.
