How To Reach Seychelles

How to Reach Seychelles by Air

If you’d prefer a quick and convenient way to reach Seychelles, air travel is the best choice. Seychelles International Airport is situated on the outskirts of the capital, Victoria, and welcomes flights from all over the world. It is serviced by the national carrier, Air Seychelles, as well as a host of top international airlines like British Airways, Emirates, Kenya Airways, Sri Lankan Airlines, Qatar Airways, Air France, Etihad and Air Ethiopia.

Air Seychelles runs a direct flight from Mumbai to Mahé Island, taking a total of 4.5 hours. Catching a flight to Mumbai from anywhere in India is not a problem, so indirect flights can be easily planned from your home city. Flights offered by other carriers may have stops in their home nations, such as in the Middle East or Africa. Taxis are readily available at the airport to take you into the town or your hotel.

Apart from the main airport, a secondary airport exists on the neighbouring island called the Praslin Island Airport which’s more for domestic travel. Visitors from India don’t need a visa to enter Seychelles, but a valid passport is a must.

How to Reach Seychelles by Sea

An experience of a lifetime awaits those who wish to travel to the Seychelles by sea. Some of the world’s best cruise operators offer spectacular sea voyages to the islands, with inexpressibly beautiful sights and experiences along the way. If you see the journey as part of the destination, try and find a cruise. There is no service running directly from India, but popular cruises run from parts of Europe and Africa coming into the main seaport at Victoria.

How to Reach Seychelles by Road

There is no way to reach Seychelles by road unless you’re on the continent of Africa and drive down to ports that offer ships or cruises to the islands.

How to Commute Within Seychelles

By Air
Air Seychelles operates flights between the nation’s two airports on Mahé and Praslin Islands. Right next to the international terminal is the domestic terminal from where daily flights take off for Praslin — taking a mere 15 minutes to land. The airline also runs weekly flights between Mahé and smaller islands like Denis, Alphonse and Bird. There is also the option of charter planes that can be hired for similar visits.

Another possibility of air travel comes in an exciting form — helicopter rides or scenic flights around the main and surrounding islands. They might not be the cheapest way to go, but the experience itself is high in memorability and thrill.

By Ferry
Ferries are a logical and more economic option as compared to flights, of moving between islands of Mahé, Praslin and La Digue. The Inter-Island Ferry Services and Cat Cocos can transport anywhere from 150 to 350 passengers at a time, depending on the size of the vessel. You can choose between the main lower, upper deck and business class tickets to suit your travel style. On-board services such as entertainment and F&B are also available. You can now make all reservations and bookings online so that it’s hassle-free when you’re there. There are also smaller boat operators with different kinds of charter boats to take you to the farther islands.

Cycling / Hiking
Bikes can be hired on Mahé and Praslin Islands, offering a beautiful and leisurely way to explore the many sights and spots they hold in store. Just be careful as you’ll be sharing most roads with vehicles.

Venturing out on foot is another popular thing to do on the main islands, as there are many mapped out hiking routes, lively marketplaces, museums and art galleries, historic monuments, botanical gardens and so much more that can easily be reached by walking.

By Car
Despite being an island nation, there is over 400 km of road network laid across Seychelles, which makes driving a popular way to move around, especially since car rentals are available right at the airport. When on Mahé Island, sightseeing and all other activities can be reached by road, along with the leisure of stopping wherever and whenever you like. Mahé and Praslin Islands both also have efficient taxis and bus services. The buses operate from 5:30 am to 8:30 pm every day, at just 5 or 10 SCR.

Now that you know everything about how to reach Seychelles and how best to move around the islands, you’re one step closer to making this dream holiday to the earthly Garden of Eden, a reality. Up next, is choosing from the amazing range of Thomas Cook Seychelles Tours.
