How to Reach By Air

Zurich Airport is the largest airport in Switzerland and flying down from another country or continent is the most convenient way to reach the city. The national carrier Swiss International Airlines operates numerous flights here. The airport is approximately 12 minutes away from the city by train. From the airport, it’s quite easy to get a train to Zurich’s main railway station – Hauptbahnhof. The station itself can be accessed directly from level 2 of the airport’s shopping centre, making it the most convenient way to reach the city from the airport.

There are not that many buses from other cities to Europe and thus, it’s not easy to get them. The buses are numbered and cost less to travel and are often used by those on a budget.

Road trips in Switzerland are dreamy and picturesque. Several Swiss highways such as the A1, A2, A3, A4, A11, and A20 lead to Zurich and it’s an easy enough ride to the city from another country or city. By Bus
Zurich has several bus routes which makes it very easy to get around the city. Tickets can be bought directly at the bus stops. You can enter the four-figure code of your destination and buy the ticket at the automatic dispensers. Bus trips around Zurich can be quite joyful because of the many sights that you can get to see.

By Tram
The tram network is very wide, and it is one of the most convenient ways to get around the city. Many people opt for the trams over buses. Tickets for your destination can be bought directly at the tram stops. There are different ticket types, so find out before you enter the details. Some are for short trips that include just five stops, while other tickets are valid for an hour and there are 24-hour city passes available too, which only makes it very convenient to hop on and hop off as you need. 

By Metro
Zurich uses the S-Bahn system which connects the city to various suburbs. It’s convenient although doesn’t offer the same attractive views as the bus or tram would.

By Bicycle
Cycling around the streets of Zurich is a wonderful way to see the city. There are cycles that can be rented from certain places such as outside the train station and all you need is an ID. You have to pay a deposit of Sfr20 and rental is free if you return it that same day. It costs Sfr10 per day if you decide to keep it with you for more than a day. 

By Foot
Exploring the Altstadt on foot is the best way to see the old city. Walking around is absolutely a must to soak in the atmosphere, especially if you’re strolling along the banks of the Lake Zurich or even the Limmat riverfront. Do remember that there will be a certain amount of walking you will have to do, even if you use modes of transport such as buses or trams or even trains. 

By Boat
Boat services on Lake Zurich and the Limmat River are excellent ways to get around the water bodies. There are lake cruises which run only between April and October and some are usually circular tours that take one and a half hours to complete. Some of the cruises can even take you all the way up to Tiefenbrunnen. There are also themed ships on the lake which can be quite the fun experience. You can also go on a riverboat around the Limmat River for a slightly different experience.

By Taxi
When public transport is so excellent, not many people use taxis in Zurich. They are also quite expensive and hence considered unnecessary. Taxis can be availed outside the Hauptbahnhof train station or you can call for them by dialling the taxi services.
