How to Reach poland

How to Reach By Air

Flying to another continent is the smartest travel decision you can make to ensure your trip is effortless and fast, especially when you are thinking about travelling to Poland, Europe. The country has 12 international airports spanning all over the plain land. However, the main international hub is Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW), located in the capital of Poland. Warszawa-Modlin International Airport is the second international airport in the capital, and it only sees the low budget carriers. Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport, Katowice Airport, Krakow John Paul II International Airport, Lodz Airport, Lublin Airport, Rzeszow Airport and Wroclaw Airport are other international airports in the country. Poland's national carrier is LOT Polish Airlines, with EasyJet, Ryanair, Norwegian, Wizzair, German wings and others operating as the low budget airlines in this European country.

Major airlines operating to Poland’s international airports are Emirates, Qatar Airways, Air India, Turkish Airways, Air France, KLM, Lufthansa, Virgin Atlantic, British Airways and so on. WAW is the most connected airport with scheduled flights from all the major destinations in the world, including New York, Tokyo, Singapore, Beijing, Toronto, Miami, Chicago, New Delhi, Dubai, Doha and many others.

When it comes to travelling to Poland from India, flying is your best bet. There are direct and connecting flights scheduled throughout the year. It takes about 8.5 hours to reach Poland from New Delhi by a direct flight. Unfortunately, that is the only direct flight operating from India. Nevertheless, there are flights from other Indian cities such as Mumbai, Goa, Bangalore and many others.

Individuals with an Indian passport need a visa to enter Poland. However, instead of a Polish visa, they need to apply for a Schengen visa. The reason behind it is simple. Poland is a member of the Schengen airport, which means that there are no physical borders between all the countries who are part of this agreement. Thus, you do not require a visa to get into any of these countries.

How to Reach By Road

In today's time, nothing is impossible or inaccessible. This includes driving to Poland from India. However, while it is possible, it is not feasible at all. You need to spend days on the road and need to get a visa for all the countries you will be driving through. Nevertheless, it is possible to travel to Poland by road from India.

If you are in any of the neighboring European countries, then there are ample travel options including cars, trains and buses. Most of these neighboring countries are a member of the Schengen agreement, which means that there will be no custom duty checks. There may be, however, random passport checks but nothing more than that.

How to Reach By Sea

If you are someone, who wants the journey to be more fulfilling and beautiful than the destination, then travelling by water is something that you should try at least once in your life.

Sailing from India to Poland directly is not an option. Currently, no cruises run between the two countries. However, there are cruises that operate from other European countries. If you are touring Europe, then you can sail into Poland's Baltic coast ports of Gdansk, Swinoujscie and Gdynia.

Getting around in Poland

Plane

Poland is a large country, which makes travelling by plane feasible and time saving, which cannot be said about other European countries. Most of the international airports also have domestic flights to and from all the major cities in the country. LOT offers regular domestic flights to Warsaw and Gdansk, Katowice, Wroclaw Rzeszow, Poznan, Szczecin and Krakow. Ryanair has direct flights from Gdansk to Wroclaw and Krakow and from Warsaw to Szczecin. LOT holds a sale every Wednesday. If you plan your trip a few months before, you can benefit from these sales as the tickets available with discounted prices are applicable only a few months post the present date.

Train

The train network in Poland is extensive and the popular choice for affordable long-distance travel. The trains are reasonably priced and are connected to most tourist destinations. However, this is only true for the metro cities and not the smaller cities. You will rely mostly on buses to travel to remote locations.

Despite this, you should use them fully while you are in the metro cities like Warsaw, Krakow, Poznan, Gdynia, and Gdansk. The national carrier is PKP Intercity and the regional carrier is Przewozy Regionalne. There are other local carriers as well in the main cities. There are many varieties of trains that run the tracks in Poland, mainly -

  • Express intercity premium (EIP)
  • ExpressIntercity (EI)
  • EuroCity (EC)
  • Intercity (IC)
  • Twoje Linie Kolejowe (TLK)
  • Regioekspress (RE)

Bus

The bus system in Poland is faster, cheaper and more comfortable than trains. The country has a very well-developed network of charter buses that connects most of the regions. Every city has a central depot, however, you can get on the bus from local bus stations too. You can buy the tickets directly from the driver. There may be a language barrier, as drivers generally do not speak English. Nevertheless, you can point towards your destination and the driver will give you the receipt for your trip.

Car

While the road system in Poland is still lagging behind compared to neighboring countries like Germany, it has improved a lot since 2010. You can easily rent a car and explore Poland on your own, especially the metro cities. However, travelling from north to south and the other way around is still not that comfortable. You will see construction sites everywhere. Although you have the option of renting a car, it is not recommended to do so.

When it comes to taxis, locals only hail them during emergencies. It is important for tourists to know that they should only go for 'corporation' taxis, with the phone number and company name written on the cab. These numbers can be fake, so if you can get help from a Polish citizen, take it. Uber also operates in the major cities of Poland, so that is another safe way of travelling in the country.

Bicycle

The rural areas of Poland are the best places for one to cycle around and take in the scenic beauty of the country. Travelling to different cities is not advisable, however, you can explore a city on a bicycle.

Now that you have a full guide on how to reach Poland and travel within the borders of the country, it is time to plan a long trip to this beautiful place and explore everything it has to offer. Check out our packages to know more!
