Galileo India and Thomas Cook issue India's first Live e-ticket

Kick-starting a new era of hi-tech travelling

Mumbai, August 09, 2003: Galileo India, the leading global distribution services provider for the travel industry and Thomas Cook (India) Ltd, one of the largest travel management company in India today issued the first e-ticket in the country. Galileo India has successfully completed its certification process with IATA.

The e-ticket in the name of Mr. Subramaniam Ramadorai, CEO, Tata Consultancy Services, was issued by Mr. Ashwini Kakkar, Managing Director, Thomas Cook (India) Limited.With this, Galileo India ushers in a new era of customer convenience and hi-tech travelling in the country. With e-ticketing, a customer can now forget about the bother of collecting physical tickets or the fear of losing them. On making a reservation, the passenger will get a confirmation by e-mail, fax or any other means. This plain-paper document will have a reference number of his reservation, along with the itinerary. All he has to do is to present this reference number at the airport, along with a proof of identity, to collect his boarding card.

Worldwide, over 45 airlines across 43 countries participate with Galileo for e-ticketing. These airlines can start offering e-ticketing to their customers almost immediately in India too. These include prominent airlines like Air Canada, Air France, British Airways, KLM,Lufthansa, Swiss, United Airlines and Virgin Atlantic. Domestic Indian carriers will be joining soon."
