Thomas Cook Holdings announces increased responsibilities for Ashwini Kakkar
Ashwini Kakkar , CEO & MD, Thomas Cook (India) Ltd, will now assume an added responsibility of leading the Thomas Cook operations in Egypt. Thomas Cook has the largest retail travel network in Egypt with 15 locations in 4 cities; 5 bureaux de change at Cairo and Luxor International airports. It also has a large corporate travel portfolio and is the General Sales Agent for Italiatour, Austrian Holidays and Eurail.
While announcing this reorganisation, Alan Stewart, CEO Thomas Cook Holdings said, "Over the past four years Ashwini Kakkar has done an excellent job in developing our business in India and across the Indian Ocean Region. I am delighted he is taking on the additional responsibility for providing leadership to our Egyptian travel business. I have every confidence that we will continue to strengthen our businesses in these two markets. "
Ashwini Kakkar, aside from heading Thomas Cook in India, is also currently in charge of establishing and developing business in the 11 countries of the Indian Ocean Region. He is the first Indian in the company to be appointed as a member on the Executive Committee of the Thomas Cook Group.
Ashwini joined Thomas Cook (India) Ltd in 1997 and the company has grown under his leadership. Thomas Cook (I) Ltd opened a wholly owned subsidiary in Mauritius and recently acquired the Groupâs operations in Sri Lanka.
In India, the business portfolio has expanded to include inbound & outbound leisure holidays , as well as new products like Visa Travel Money, other card products and Moneygram in the Foreign Exchange business. The business network has expanded from 39 offices in 13 cities to 51 branches in 16 cities.
The company has also embarked on an ambitious technology programme which includes a full fledged website, www.thomascook.co.in and a 24-hour Call Centre as also the implementation of SAP: Enterprise Resource Planning Software, VSAT & Leased Line connectivity across all its branches and other related additions in the technical arena.
Kakkar has degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Law; is a Finance major from IIM Calcutta , and is a graduate in International Business from INSEAD (France).
