Thomas Cook wins Corporate Governance Award

'Good governance with a well defined code of ethics is the heartbeat of an organisation.' Following this motto, Thomas Cook (India) Ltd, the leading travel and travel related services provider, bagged the much coveted award for Corporate Governance.

The prestigious Golden Peacock Award is initiated by the Institute of Directors (IOD), a non profit organisation, in association with World Environment Foundation (WEF), Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), World Council for Corporate Governance (WCFCG) and Centre for Corporate Governance.

"The award is a recognition of Thomas Cook’s commitment to good governance. And this is the second time round that we have been presented this award, so it is also a reflection of our belief in the process of continuity. We at Thomas Cook have formed various committees to monitor and guide various aspects of our business. It is this practice that has helped us steer well even in a turbulent year with Gulf War and Sars," says Madhavan Menon, Executive Director - Thomas Cook (India) Ltd, who received the award on behalf of the company, this morning.

The Awards were presented by Justice M N Venkatchalliah, former Chief Justice of India & Chairman of the Jury, at a ceremony in a seminar held on 'Challenges of Corporate Governance in Turbulent Times’ held in the city today. Thomas Cook (India ) Ltd was adjudged the winner in the Private Sector category, while Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd got the award in the Public Sector category.

The award provides an added dimension to Thomas Cook (India) Ltd which also won the Government of India Tourism award as well as Best Travel Agency – India award from TTG Asia, a recognition from The Travel Trade fraternity.
