Thomas Cook (Mauritius) Travel Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Thomas Cook (India) Ltd, a leading travel and financial services provider, has been recently appointed as the General Sales Agent for Lufthansa and Condor in Mauritius. The company is setting up a new office at Port Louis, slated to be inaugurated by the Honourable K. C. Kushiram, Minister of Industry, Financial Services and Corporate Affairs on August 5, 2004.

Located at a vantage point on Intendance Street, Port Louis, the office will house Thomas Cook (Mauritius) Travel Ltd and its sister concern Thomas Cook (Mauritius) Operations Co. Ltd. which offers Foreign Exchange services and started its operations in Mauritius in the year 2000.

"Mauritius with its multi-cultural history has established itself as a convenient and important international business hub in the Indian Ocean region", says Ashwini Kakkar, Director, Thomas Cook (Mauritius) Travel Ltd.

Political stability, a Freeport status and removal of exchange control restrictions have helped the island republic push forward in its economic growth. It has also positioned itself as an attractive yet unspoilt tourist destination. "With tourism being one of the mainstay of the country’s economy, Thomas Cook, a global brand and pioneer of the tourism industry is determined to making a significant contribution to this sector," adds Kakkar.

The new office will currently provide the local customers as well as international tourists with Lufthansa and Condor airline ticketing service and Foreign Exchange services.

"We also plan to enhance our product range of travel related services so as to be a One Stop Travel Shop for our customers," says Madhavan Menon, Director, Thomas Cook (Mauritius) Operations Co Ltd.

For Kalyan Gogoi, Area Manager, "the opening of the new office is another step forward in strengthening our presence in Mauritius and also reiterates the commitment of management in developing the Mauritius operations. Thomas Cook views Mauritius as a strategically important market and is committed to contribute positively to the economy as it grows its operations in Mauritius."

Leveraging on the synergy provided by the Thomas Cook Group, there are plans to expand the network in Mauritius as well as establish offices across the SAARC region.
