The Green Planet is an enchanting indoor rainforest in Dubai. A treat for nature lovers, this rainforest houses impressive and diverse 3,000 species of exotic flora and fauna. An immersive tropical forest, it functions as a real ecosystem in a vertical glass bio-dome designed like a folded sheet of origami and is segregated into four levels of the forest – The Canopy; The Mid Story; The Forest Floor and the Flooded Rainforest. At the very center of this mesmerizing forest is an artificial 82-foot-tall tree, creating a thriving environment for the wildlife with an indoor waterfall connected to it.
As you embark on this mesmerizing journey, it begins with the flooded rainforest which is a cavern of aquariums with unique amphibian and marine animals like arapaima, Arowana, fishes, tortoises, and stingrays which are typically found in underwater tropical environments.

From here, ascent to the roof of the treetop in a lift and reach the canopy. At an astounding height of approximately 30-45 metres above the ground, the canopy forms the roof of the rainforest, providing a panoramic view from the treetop of the ecosystem and absorbing the majority of the sunlight. Here one can encounter a multitude of birds such as parrots and macaws roaming freely along with an intriguing exhibit of bees, colourful butterflies and leaf-cutter ants behind a perspex wall.
The 25m tall majestic tree is wrapped with vines and dripping figs which in the future will encompass and completely cover the tree creating a verdant environment for tropical species to thrive and sustain while enhancing the habitat in the world’s first largest fabricated tree.
The visitor then descends on the floor below via a staircase and land on the midstory floor. Kids can take the fun wooden bridges and rope walkways for the same. One can spot the vibrant South American toucans, parakeets, and shy nocturnal porcupines. Here the leaves are big to absorb the trickling sunlight from the canopy above.
Further down, past a huge cascading waterfall is the forest floor. Dark, quiet and humid this floor exhibits the diverse reptiles, insects, and amphibians safely behind glass enclosures. An exceptional floor for an up-close view of the sloths, sugar gliders, frogs, tarantulas, spiders, lizards, vipers, green boa, iguana, panther chameleon, tokay gecko and a host of other species.
There is a team of biologist and trained staff to take care of the creatures and help the guests with the queries and introduce the different species. In the words of Eric Hupperts (a Californian wildlife expert): “This is a living classroom an experience where anyone can learn about tropical wildlife… This tree represents how you would see a real tree in its natural environment, with vines and dripping figs… Within 10 years they will take hold and completely cover the artificial tree. It will be constantly changing.”
An interactive display and safe enclosures ensure an educational yet recreational experience for kids and families. A living museum, the Green Planet is an extraordinary place to experience a rainforest with tropical life and understand it’s importance on earth.
