The excitement of the journey hit me right after I landed at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Journey Towards Muktinath \u2013 Through Nepal’s Himalayan Landscapes<\/b><\/h2>\n

On the third day, we packed up and left Kathmandu. This time, we were headed towards the <\/span>Muktinath pilgrimage<\/span>. But first, we had a stop in<\/span> Pokhara<\/span><\/a>. The charming lakeside destination serves as the gateway to the Annapurna mountain range. Although I am not a big fan of the winding mountain roads, the scenic drive kept me completely distracted with a smile on my face.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kathmandu\u2019s dense city architecture quickly dissolved into snow-covered peaks, rushing rivers and lush green valleys. En route, we took a small halt, which became one of my favourite experiences on the journey. The cable car ride to Manakamana Temple. Traversing through lush valleys in a cable car is as breathtaking as it sounds. You really have to be there to enjoy it to its fullest. The shrine was not densely crowded. So after our darshan, we took our sweet time snapping some group photos.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Then we continued our way to Pokhara, where we checked in and stayed overnight at the hotel. The next day, our journey took us further into the mountains to Jomsom. It is a quaint town on the banks of the Kali Gandaki River in Mustang District. A Divine Experience at Muktinath Temple<\/b><\/h2>\n

This was it. The moment we had all been waiting for had finally arrived. The long <\/span>flight <\/span><\/a>of stairs to reach the temple complex scared me at first. The 300+ paved stone steps were not painfully steep, but we took a few \u201cbreathers\u201d along the climb. Honestly, we just wanted an excuse to stand still at the steps and marvel at the scenic beauty of the region.<\/span><\/p>\n

Upon reaching the complex, we learned about the shrine\u2019s history and spiritual significance. Mentioned in ancient Puranas, Muktinath is a revered avatar of Lord Vishnu. This historic shrine is sacred to both Hindus and Buddhists. Knowing we were at an altitude of 3,710 metres, we took everything in at a slow, comfortable pace.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The central shrine is one of the Swayam Vyakta Kshetras in Hinduism. In Buddhism, it is worshipped as Chumig Gyatsa. It also features the Nepalese pagoda-style architecture, with wooden carvings, a golden pinnacle, and a multi-tiered roof. Inside the inner sanctum, Lord Vishnu sits in the iconic Padmasana pose.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another fascinating element of the shrine was the 108 Mukti Dhara. These are cow-headed water spouts, channeling freezing water straight from the Gandaki River. It is believed that taking a bath in this water can cleanse one\u2019s bad karma and previous sins. So I joined the other devotees for a spiritual cleansing. It sure was cold. As I offered my prayers at the main temple, I felt a massive wave of accomplishment. My eyes were definitely watery, which I can assure you were tears of joy and relief.
