As city dwellers, the mention of waterfalls brightens up faces and brings smiles. The closest most of us get to see a waterfall is as the wallpaper of a laptop or a wander lusting traveller\u2019s Instagram feed.\u00a0 India is fortunate enough to be blessed with some extremely gorgeous waterfalls in Karnataka<\/strong>. Be it the Jog Falls of Karnataka or the magnificent Athirappilly Falls in Kerala or the Nohkalikai Falls in Meghalaya, all are beautiful beyond description. One state in India which is privileged to host some of the most enchanting waterfalls in Karnataka. There are some magnificent waterfalls all along the length and breadth of the state.<\/p>\n

These waterfalls bring in a lot of national and international tourists around the year. These waterfalls are accompanied by some beguiling fauna and flora that will make one drop their jaws in awe.<\/p>\n

1. Jog Falls\"Jog<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Jog Falls has the distinction of being called the \u2018Niagara of India\u2019 and is one of the highest and most beautiful waterfalls in the country. The waterfall sits snugly on the border of Uttara Kannada and Shimoga district. The waterfall is locally known as Jogada Gundi and Gersoppa Falls too. The waterfalls are formed when the Sharavathi River falls from a height of 253 metres in four streams named \u2013 Raja, Rani, Rocket and Roarer.\u00a0 The Rocket is named so because of its ability to nosedive at rocket speed. The Roarer roars as it falls and hence the name.<\/p>\n

Just next to the parking lot is a viewpoint. A narrow path takes you straight to the foot of the waterfalls. This is a steep walk of around 45 minutes one way. Walking on the path can be dangerous during the rains, as the pathway gets slippery. A trek down to the foot of the waterfalls is recommended only in summers or winters.<\/p>\n
