Ratangarh is a fort in RatanWadi, overlooking the locale of Bhandardara, one of the oldest artificial catchment areas. The Ratangarh fort is around 2000 years old. Ratangarh has a natural rock peak. The peak has a cavity in it at the top and it is called 'Nedhe' or 'Eye of the Needle'. The fort has four gates namely, Ganesh, Konkan, Hanuman and Trimbak. There are also many wells on the top. The Pravara/Amrutvahiniriver originates in the fort. The Bhandardara dam is built on this river.



Wilson Dam was built in 1910 on the Pravara River. With a height of 150 m high, Wilson Dam is the largest earthen dam in India.  At the base of Wilson Dam you will find a garden which is endowed with lush greenery and streams. During monsoon season, the dam opens its gates to release water. 



Mount Kalsubai is the highest peak of Maharashtra and it has a height of 1,646 m. Trekkers favour this peak a lot. 


Umbrella Falls is located near the Wilson Dam. The beauty of the fall is sure to make you awestuck. Visit this place during monsoon to experience the real beauty of the falls.


Randha waterfalls. Is situated 10 km from Bhandardara. It is considered to be the third largest fall in India at a height of 45 m. This falls is around 11 km away from Wilson Dam. The water of this fall is used for generation of hydro-power.

This is beautiful stone carved Shiva Temple made during 900 AD. We can see lots of fine carved work on most of stone blocks used in this temple. This temple is on bank of holy river Pravara. The area in which this temple is Pravara Basin and is rich in dense forests, wildlife, pollution less clean weather so it is called Kashmir of Maharashtra.



The sanctuary is situated at AkoleTaluk. Best Season to visit would be August-December. The sanctuary is placed among the Sahyadri hill ranges and offers a picturesque scene. The Kalasubai peak has an altitude of 1646m and is the highest peak in Western Ghats. It is an ideal place for people who want to enjoy the beauty of nature far away from the hustle & bustle of city life. The sanctuary has various temples, peaks and forts that make it a place of rich past.

KalasubaiHarischandragad Wildlife Sanctuary near Bhandardara is the shelter to wide variety of wildlife which includes birds, butterflies andrepliles. Birds spotted here are mainly common hill and grassland birds such as Kingfishers, raptors, Barbets and Shrikes. You can also see waterbirds such as Black Ibis, White Necked Stork, Cattle, Little & Large Egrets, Purple & Pond Heron, Little & Large Cormorants and also Water hens.


The folk dances that form a part of Bhandardara's culture are the Lavni, Gondhal, Bharud and Povada. Lavni is supposed to be the identity of Maharashtra that happens to be the most favourite dances of the district of Ahmednagar too. Mashru and Himroo are forms of weaving art, native to Maharashtra.



The Dams in this region and waterfalls are must visits. Also, the Agastya Rishi Ashram and the Ratangarh Fort could be visited. There is high scope for those who love adventure for they could indulge in trekking activities here.
