The city of Chandigarh is located at the foothills of the Shivalik Mountain Range of the Himalayas. It has a subtropical climate and as a result of which you will get to see great seasonal variations. The summers are very hot with a daily average high temperature of 46-degree centigrade. The winters are also cool and dry because of the cool winds flowing from the Himalayas. In the winter months, the daily average temperature drops to 1-degree centigrade when its neighboring states Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh receives snowfall.
The city of Chandigarh has several urban forests which have plantations of a Banyan tree, Eucalyptus tree, and Ashoka tree. The outskirts of the city have a densely forested ecosystem where several species of plants and animals native to this region can be found.
