This is a very precious gift from Le Corbusier and the Chief Engineer P.L. Verma to the city of Chandigarh. It is an integral part of the lines of the people of this city who find their share of respite here. It is a rain-fed artificial lake covering around 3 square kilometers of area.
It has a sanctuary where several migratory birds nest during the winter months. Some of the guest birds are cranes, storks and Siberian Ducks. This lake has been declared as a protected wetland. The bank of this lake is a popular spot for the people to stroll and enjoy the sunrise and sunset at the lake. It is also a popular venue for several events like Mango Festival, etc.
