Places to Visit in Kalpa

Located 240km away from Shimla, Reckong Peo is a popular and much talked about monument in Himachal Pradesh. It is situated at an altitude of 2670m from the sea level and it offers a panoramic view of Kinner Kailash. The Kinner Kailash Mountain is considered as one of mythical homes of Lord Shiva.

Built in the traditional Tibetan Pagoda style od architecture, this temple at Kalpa is one of the star attractions. Key Gompa is a large and beautiful ancient monastery which is believed to be established in the 11th century. The monastery has many antique Buddhist paintings and scrolls in it.

Chitkul is the village situated at the verge of the border of Tibet.

This region has the perfect blend of Buddhists and Hindus culture. It is for livelihood that most of the people living in Kalpa earn their bread by selling weaved shawls and caps to the tourists. Taking alcoholic beverages on festivals and all occasions as well as on daily basis is a part of their culture. The people of Kapla are mainly non-vegetarian and enjoy the meat of ram and goat.. However there are many special and delicious dishes typical to Himachal such as Chha meat, Bathu ki khir, Khatta kaddu, Channa madra, Chicken anardana, Kachalu ka salan and many more which you can try for a change. Kalpa is well known for the production of quality apples and pinus gerardiana, popularly known as chilghoza.  You can have them to check out the differences in tastes.  

The only market place in Kalpa is the Kalpa market which is quite big in size. All the main amenities of daily life such as foods, lodging and other essentials are concentrated over here. There is also the beautiful Jain Temple situated at the middle of Kalpa market.
