Monuments In Yuksom

• Dubdi Monastery: The Dubdi monastery has religious relevance as well as monumental importance. It is the oldest monastery in Sikkim and the coronation of the first Chogyal Phuntsog Namgyal took place here. The Namgyal family then started reigning over the region for the next 333 year from 1642 to 1975. This marks the importance of Yuksom as a place of significant historic relevance as during the Namgyal reign the place saw some major development leading to Buddhism setting roots in Sikkim.
 
• Tashi Tenka: It is known that Yuksom was the first capital of Sikkim. During that time Tashi Tenka was the royal palace blessed with exotic views of the surrounding. Remains of the palace are open for public visits. The place can be reached from Gupha Dara village.
 
• Norbugang Park: This is the exact site of the coronation of the first Chogyal (King); the park still has foot prints of a Lama, who was the crowned king. This charming place will give you an insight to the rich historical heritage of Yuksom and its relevance to the people of the town.
