A divine deserted beach, Dolly Beach provides the perfect setting for a quiet afternoon. The stunning spot is one of only two beaches on the island where marine turtles can be found.

With more than 2/3rds of the breath-taking Island belonging to one of the world’s most valued national parks, Christmas Island is a natural wonder. The Red Crab Migration, which takes place at the Island annually during the wet and cold seasons, sees hundreds of millions of little red critters make their way to the beach to mate and spawn. Tall imposing rainforests and lush semi-deciduous forests comprising 25 species of trees on whose branches ferns, orchids and vines flourish too are an important part of the protected park and are responsible for giving it, its enchanting green edge.

Thus it is home to a number of religious places which coexist in ideal harmony – Buddhism, Taoism, Islam, and Christianity are all practiced on the island. Overlooking and offering panoramic views of the Flying Fish Cove is the captivating Tai Jin House or as it is more popularly and endearingly known, the ‘Buck House’. Not far from the structure lie buildings and a navy installation gun that date back to 1941 and was used to defend the Cove during World War II.

The RumahTinggi Bar and Grill is located in an 80 year old heritage building and serves up handcrafted artisan food and drink – tapas is a favourite here while The Golden Bosun Restaurant with its modern international cuisine, sublime desserts and enchanting views of the Indian Ocean makes for a great spot for a cup of coffee. The Christmas Island Restaurant and The Coffee Shop, more popularly known as Poon Saan Kopi Tiam are also for their sublime fare. While the former serves some of the best Western and Asian fusion food on the Island, the latter offers up a different, authentic hawker dish each day.

Retail therapy is done with a spin at Christmas Island. Dotted with many, quaint little shops and boutiques filled with heaps of keepsakes and goodies, Island shopping here is one of a kind. And the best part is, that everything, from snorkelling and fishing equipment to local craft to clothing to general merchandise, is available at the Island for nearly duty-free prices. The Christmas Island Post Office is a must visit for collectors of stamps – Christmas Island is one of only three places in Australia to issue its own stamps making them unique and collectible. The shop also sells a number of memorable souvenirs and cute toys and gifts. D’VineD’zinz is the place to go to on the island for trendy club wear and exquisite locally.
