Attractions in churchill

Just like the rest of Churchill, you won’t know where a couple of hours passed by while you’re exploring this place. The stuffed polar bear, narwhal horns, stuffed musk ox and the skin covered kayak are the stars of the museum as they grab your attention prior to anything else. Moving around in the museum, you will find tiny arrow heads, harpoon blades and carvings that show the everyday scenes of life. Also they have a large variety of books about the town and related matters for sale. Thus, it would surely be a great experience for all.

A battery was built at this very cape, but now only a cannon and a crumbled up wall remain. Two km northwest of the town, it is an incredible location which has its own beauty to impress the visitors. During the summer months, you can also see some belugas from the shore there.

Churchill’s varied history is documented by 3 historic sites that are administered by the Park Canada. These sites are not on the same land as the city and thus the visitors have to be accompanied by authorised tour operators. The fort took 40 years to be built and the canons have never been fired. The star shaped stone structure established by the Prince of Wales still remains standing since its inception in the 1770s. It was made on top of the Eskimo point across the major Churchill River. The place now is muddy. Sloops Cove, the harbour of the European vessels, is just 4 km south of the fort. The names of the early explorers can be found as they are carved on the seaside rocks. For example, Samuel Hearne was a local governor in the 18th century who was the first person to cross the Arctic Ocean in an overland trip. His name can be found on the rocks. CapeMerry is also a part of this historic site trio.
