A visit to the Watersmeeting Nature Reserve, a little outside the town is made to protect that part of the Kowie River where the tidal and fresh waters meet. Bird watching and canoeing are two relaxing activities that can be pursued here.

If you are interested in horse riding go to the Port Alfred area where they arrange for daily horse rides in the beach or in the Fort Dácre game Reserve. An expert can cover both the terrains and it’s quite an enjoyable activity.

Food in kwantu


The best sushi of South Africa is available in this quaint restaurant competing with high rated international standards. The cocktails available are also much talked about.


It is a cafe kind of a place with excellent coffee bread and pastries and is a good place to spend the lunch hour for a light meal, opens as early as 7am.


If you want to have a good steak this is the place, cooked with perfection. The service is also very prompt.


The tapas platters are good here and though the selection of wine is less, it caters to all tastes.


A good place for that five star kind of an experience with great view. The views of Humewood beach could be enjoyed sitting at the table outside.


The Afro Asian halaal is a traditional cuisine with an addition of a lot of spice.

Night Life in kwantu


Copper Kettle is mainly a bar with lunch facilities as well but they also play jazz live every Sunday afternoon.


Snorting Grunter is a beachside pub and is a very trendy place in Port Alfred. The pool tables, the sports screens, the dance club and a beer garden spruce it all up into a very happening venue.


Scot’s Pot is a sports club and bar where you get the basic alchohol soak-ups.

Shopping in kwantu


It’s worth doing a little detour and visit the Keiskamma Arts Project which trains over more than hundreds of local women in embroidery and crafts. The Keiskamma Tapestry talks about the history of the area and is now hanged in the Parliament buildings of Caper Town. The Trust is involved in various health and education projects too. It’s a beautiful shop selling cushions and different curios of your choice.
