Freedom Monument in Riga is also known as ‘Milda’.  It was erected in 1935 as a replacement of the statue of Peter the Great Russian ruler. This statue is a female liberty figure in copper with three golden starts in her hands representing three regions of Latvia. This church is one of the popular sacred sites in the world.  St. Nicholas Maritime Cathedral in Liepaja, built in 1901 and again restored in 1990 has beautiful architecture with bulbous cupolas.

Cable Car Bungee Jump in Sigulda will take you to try 43m bungee jump high in the clouds over the Gauja River. This is conducted on Fridays to Sundays during May to September. Aerodium in Sigulda takes you up in the sky upto 15metres altitude and keep you flying. Before the venture you will be given complete training.

Latvian favorites are Black Bread, Biezpiena Sierins, a curd with sweet snack, Maizes Zupa bread soup, Biesu zupa the red beetroot soup, Laima chocolate and smoked cheese.  Local Black Balsam, the Latvian Beer is an excellent drink prepared with herbs, spices and roots.

Krodzins ‘Riva’ is a small one located in Jurkalne near a waterfall with wooden bridge. It is in the highway of Liepaja and Ventspils. Raganas Kekis in Vidzeme region and Rossini in Valmiera near castle ruins offer good wine.

Central Market in Riga is the most famous shopping spot in Latvia. It is the oldest market serving the Latvians from 1330. It changed its location several times during all these centuries. It came to the current place in 1930. This is open from 7 am to 5 pm on Sunday and Mondays and until 6 pm on Tuesdays to Saturdays. Every month on first and last Mondays are allotted for maintenance work and hence parts of the market will be closed.
