Places to Visit in Mombasa


Shimba Hills National Park

This national park is located on a mountain with lush greenery all around. Some of the major attractions in this national park include the waterfall, the elephant’s habitat, the Mwaluganje forest, species like antelopes and of course the stunning landscapes around the park.

Mombasa Go Kart

This is a must-visit place for the adults and the kids as well. The tracks are concrete and are smooth. Enjoy the excitement of being on a kart track and on a racing car. Your kids too will enjoy this place.

The Fort Jesus Museum

This is a popular cultural museum in Mombasa. It is a top attraction for the visiting tourists of the city. Fort Jesus has also been termed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011. You can check out the several artefacts, ceramics and also the potteries kept inside the museum.

The Mombasa Tusks

This is one of the major landmarks of Mombasa. This was constructed as a tribute to Queen Elizabeth in the year 1952 when she came to visit the city. The ivory tusks are meant to be an exquisite commodity. 


Visit the old town of Mombasa which holds the key to the past history of the city. There are lots of restaurants and souvenir shops in this old town which is a great place to explore. Just at the north of Nyali is the Haller Park which is actually a small zoo which is set up like a park. Some of the animals that you can see in this park includes hippopotamus, giraffes, reptiles and monkeys.

Mamba Village center

This is the largest crocodile firm in entire East Africa. It is located in Nyali and when you visit this firm with your family and kids, you will be able to learn about the behaviour and life cycle of these amphibians. You can also go exploring the botanical garden and the associated aquarium on a horseback ride. There are several aquatic plants and orchids in the garden. You can also try some delicious Mombasa delicacies here such as ostrich meat, crocodile meat

One of the most famous landmarks of Mombasa is the Mombasa Tusks. Secondly, the old town, the national parks, the Haller Park, etc. are all considered as important landmarks in the city. 

Fort Jesus

This is the topmost tourist destination in Mombasa. If you are in the city, then you must visit this destination at any cost. Built by the Portuguese in the 16th century, this fort was built to protect the city from the local rioting mobs and the foreign invaders, Fort Jesus also serves as a venue for hosting different research programs and other local events. There are also different types of weapons and canons in display inside the Fort.
