The whole of Nong Khiaw has its natural authenticity well maintained and has somewhat a rustic feel all together. Although some of the modern day bare necessities are now available here, but most of its natural beauty and charm remains unchanged. You can rent a bicycle and explore this small two street village and drench in its natural beauty which is spiked by the surrounding lime stone peaks and green stretches throughout the entire area. The beautiful Nam Ou River splits this town into two halves and when you cross the connecting big concrete bridge the view from its top is compelling. One can say that this village is still at the crossroads between being a charming little village and being a major tourist spot.

Nong Khiaw has a lot of choices in adventurous activities and sports, from hiking to river rafting, trekking, kayaking, tube rafting, caving, rock climbing to bicycle rides, Nong Khiaw has it all and at one of the most scenic locations in the world. 

As per relaxation is concerned this charming little town is all about relaxation you can also choose to practice yoga at the Laos Yoga Retreats, to replenish the mind and body. As far as Nong Khiaw’s atmosphere is concerned it is one of the most laid back towns in the whole of Laos and not a party destination.

Khao piak khao is the favourite food of Lao people. It is a thick rice soup which comes with pork meat balls, scallions and many other ingredients. Khao ji pate is another dish which you simply cannot afford to miss.

Decorated with beautiful creeper vines this charming little eating joint offers a unique collection ranging from the traditional Lao green curries to the popular western classics like salads, bagels, hamburgers and pan cakes and other western breakfast choices. 

This is the liveliest eatery in whole town and is located on the west bank. You can dine in a beautiful garden setting on the boat dock. It mainly specializes in Southeast Asian cuisine.

Hive Bar is one of the most popular bars in town. They also offer a free shot to the tourists and allow you to DJ music of your own choice as the music usually played here may not be very rich in variety.

As for a more formal and pricier setting you can head to the Riverside Resort to indulge in a glass of wine or beer if you will.

There are a few shops in the main street in Nong Khiaw which caters more than the bare necessities to the tourists.
