On the top floor, you will find the statue of Amitabha.

There are many places to see while in Phuntosholing. The quaint little place has its own charm and one of them is the DrukgyelDzong. This small hamlet has the Mount Chomolhari in the background. First built in the year 1646 by ShubdrungNawangNamgyal to commemorate his victory over the Tibetan invaders led by Mongolion warlord, Gushri Khan, most of the place is in ruins even if it has strategically withstood through time. Despite its beauty, the place captured the attention of the western world only in 1914 through the National Geographic magazine. The Dzong was destroyed by fire in the year 1951. However, it was restored and is currently preserved as a heritage site.

Bhutan is a religious place where Hinduism and Buddhism dominate the most. The modern day of ZangtoPelriLhakhang is a replica of replica of Guru Rinpoche's celestial abode. Made using concrete, the surrounding garden is a pleasant view and it has that strange calmness especially when pilgrims come to pray here.

You can visit the place and snooze with the gharials and sleepy muggers at the Center which is a 10-minute walk north of the bus station. The crocodiles are fed every other day at noon.

In Phuntsholing, you can also opt for hiking. You can book yourself in one of these and hike or trek the entire area. The feeling is exhaustive and exhilarating for you will be closest to nature and imbibing it through all the senses.

Since the town is located at the border of Bhutan and India, there are multiple restaurants that serve Indian food. However, there are also places that serve good selection of cakes and pastries.

The Bhutanese are very liberal about their consumption of alcohol. This should not come as a surprise because alcohol is cheap and readily available in multiple bars in the city. These bars also serve the local brews of whiskeys, gins, rum, brandies and peculiar drink called sonfy which is best to avoid if you cannot handle strong liquors. There are two kinds of whiskey brands - Special Courier and CSJ that are made of Scottish malt which are quite pleasant and smooth. Internationally all major brands of alcohol are readily available.

Phuntosholing does not have any kind of arts and crafts shop or even a gift shop for that matter. Therefore, you either have to waive off your shopping plans till you depart from here. This town has grocery centers, a fresh vegetable market and electrical and computer shops. Otherwise, you can simply have a vacation and imbibe the beauty of nature as much as is possible without thinking about monetary trivia.
