This magnificent road of the water is the most wonderful street of Venice. Surrounded by lavish architecture, you actually glide within the atmosphere with its unforgettable splendour and unparallel beauty.


It’s a huge sprawling shipping yard that stopped operations in 1800s but produced a galleon a day during its peak. At present it is open to the public for boat rides and viewing of antique sailing vessels, famous more for its historical re-enactments.


Venice is synonymous with gondolas and they can be admired while on sail or when under repair at the boatyard of the church known as squero in Venetian. Model kits of the boats are sold by the San Polo shop for children in the age group of 8-16.

Every year the locals march from the St Mark’s Square to this basilica commemorating the feast of Lady of Good Health celebrations. The church was built in 1630 near the entrance of the Grand Canal in honour of Virgin Mary.


The style that is incorporated in modelling this church represents the Roman, Venetian and Byzantine history. It’s a copy of the church of the Twelve Apostles, the museum within pays respect to the saint in the manifestations of various exhibits telling about the saint.


To appreciate the natural environment of Venice, it is recommended to take a break on one of the lagoon islands. The Venetian nature can be explored on a boat trip to some minor island e.g. San Francesco del Deserto, remote place where you can’t avail any public transport to drive down to. A short trip to Sant’Elena is also a wonderful suggestion to experience the greenery of Venice.

Traditional regattas with the gondolas are a favourite entertainment with the rowing crews. With competitive races in the Grand Canal , La Sensa and Vogalona held in the month of May are long rows from San Marco to Burano and then to the Grand Canal to finish it off.
