How to Reach Mount Abu by Air

One of the fastest ways to reach Mount Abu is by air. But Mount Abu does not have its own airport. The closest one is at Udaipur which is 185 km away. Interestingly, at 221 km, Ahmedabad Airport is the second closest airport to Mount Abu.

Udaipur and Ahmedabad are busy routes and receive daily flights from all major domestic operators from cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Chennai. Those flying in from the western or southern parts of India can choose to land at the Ahmedabad Airport. If you’re coming from the northern or eastern parts of India, you can land at Udaipur.

Udaipur Airport to Mount Abu - There are private taxis available at Udaipur Airport that will take you directly to Mount Abu. You can pre-book these online or engage one at the airport. However, do note that advance booking will cost you lesser than booking one on the spot. But if you decide to take a bus, you will have to head into the city. RSRTC has a regular AC bus service operating between Udaipur and Mount Abu that will ensure that you reach your destination in comfort.

Ahmedabad Airport to Mount Abu - If you decide to travel from Ahmedabad Airport, you can easily book a taxi to take you directly to Mount Abu. Again, pre-booking will ensure you lower costs and assured availability. It is a journey of around 3 - 4 hours. However, a bus is a pocket-friendlier option that takes slightly more time than a private taxi. As there are no direct buses from Ahmedabad Airport, you will have to get one from the city. You can take your pick from GSRTC or any of the private operators that ply buses between the two cities. All the bus services coming into Mount Abu end at Koyla Depot which is the city’s busiest bus station.

 

How to Reach Mount Abu by Railways

This is the next best way to reach Mount Abu from the corner of the country. Though not as quick as flying, it makes for a scenic journey as the train makes its way across the countryside. This train journey will be as exciting as the destination itself and will be a great prelude to your hill station holiday.

Abu’s railway station, Abu Road, is around 28 km from the main city. There are many trains that run between Mount Abu and all major cities around India. Some of these run every day of the week, especially from bigger cities like Mumbai and New Delhi.

  • New Delhi to Mount Abu - There are 16 trains that can take you to Mount Abu from New Delhi. There are 3 trains which run every day: Ashram Express, Swarna Jayanti Rajdhani Express and Yoga Express. These trains take between 10 to 13 hours to reach Mount Abu from New Delhi.
  • Kolkata to Mount Abu - If you’re looking to catch a train from Kolkata, you have only one option, the Sare Jahan Se Acchha Express. The train runs once a week and takes 48 hours to take you to Mount Abu!

  • Chennai to Mount Abu - The Chennai Egmore - Jodhpur Express is the only train that directly connects Chennai to Mount Abu. It runs once a week and takes around 38 hours to complete the journey.

  • Bengaluru to Mount Abu - India’s IT capital is better connected to Mount Abu with 7 trains running between the two cities. It takes between 37 to 42 hours to reach Mount Abu from Bengaluru, depending on the train.

While some of these journeys may last a couple of days, the train is one of the most comfortable ways to reach Mount Abu.
