Lion Safari 

Spread across 5 hectares of the verdant Ragihalli Reserve Forest is the animal house that presently is home to 19 lions (10 male and 9 females). Feel the rush of spotting the majestic species in their natural habitat amidst the lush forest as you cruise through in the safari. The route to the safari passes through the picturesque hillock Mattubunde offering a breathtaking panoramic view of the magnificent landscape featuring a broken chain of hillocks and valleys with lush green forests.

Tiger Safari 

The Appaiah Tiger Safari takes you through the enclosure that houses 26 (15 male and 11 females) normal tigers and 7 (3 male and 4 females) white tigers. 

 Herbivore Safari

Sprawling over 68 hectares of the Bannerghatta Reserve Forest is the Herbivore Safari that was developed in the 1970's but opened to public in 2002. The marvelous safari features a multitude variety of spectacular species such as gaur, cheetal, pangolin, nilgai, wild boar, sambar, barking deer, porcupine, black buck and many more. The enclosure comprises of diverse fodder species such as symbopogan, sacharam, and heteropogan and 4 water bodies namely Gowdanakere, Chennamanakere, Deepankere and Seegadikunte which are the constant source of water to the animals.

Bear Safari 

Spanning 18 hectares, embark on a safari to witness sloth bears in their natural environment that is surrounded by a diverse variety of fruit bearing trees. The park comprises of 77 (31 males and46 females) bears.

Wildlife Sanctuary

The Bannerghatta National Park is a treasure trove of beautiful exotic species that reside within the 25,000 acres of the park. Stroll across the park to see the diverse wildlife such as foxes, wild pigs, elephants, leopards, gaurs, sambars, sloth bears, chitals, common langurs, spotted and barking deers, slender loris, bonnet macaques, and many others. The park also houses fascinating creepy cold-blooded reptiles such as huge monitor lizards, tortoises, crocodiles, pythons, cobras, Russell vipers, kraits, etc.

Bird Sanctuary

A haven for avid bird enthusiasts, it is a delight to see cormorants, common grey hornbill, mottled wood owl, white ibis, paradise flycatcher, tickell’s blue flycatcher, grey heron, partridges, little green heron, quails, white bellied insisted, spotted owlet, flycatchers, cuckoos, Eurasian eagle owl, brown fish owl, collared scop’s owl and many more.

Butterfly Park

View the spectacular and fascinating colourful species at the park that acts as an integrated center to support education, conservation and research activities with exclusive focus on butterflies as flagship ambassadors of conservation. A butterfly trail of 1 km established over a five acre land leads to a an innovatively designed three dome structure comprising of butterfly garden, a conservatory enclosed under polycarbonate roof comprising of humid tropical climate, an artificial waterfall and appropriate flora and research and captive breeding laboratory. The conservatory leads into a museum that proffers information through dioramas and exhibits of carefully preserved butterflies. This further leads into a multimedia center dome which projects a documentary movie based on butterflies.

Other Activities at Bannerghatta National Park 

Visitors can indulge in a wide array of activities at the park such as undertaking an exciting trek adventure at Uddigebande (3.5 kms.), a natural rock formation called Hajjamana Kallu (3 kms.) and Mirza Hill (1.5 kms.), fishing, coracle boat rides, bird watching, river rafting and outdoor rafting.

This park is open throughout the year and the best time to spot the wildlife is in the months of November to June. The temperature in Bannerghatta ranges from 15°C to 35°C during the year, with an average rainfall of about 700mm annually.

Interesting Facts About Bannerghatta National Park  

• A natural and ecological phenomenon that takes place at the Bannerghatta National Park is the annual migration of elephants from the Eastern Ghats to the Western Ghats. It has elevated the prominence of the park becoming a hot destination for research related activities, apart from helping it stay in the public consciousness.
• The park performs as a relocation area for tigers and lions that are rescued from circuses in India.
• In 1992 while on safari with her family a 5-year-old girl was killed by a tiger. The tiger was then relocated to the zoo.
• The elephant fence was funded by PETA India
• Originating from the Suvarnamukhi hills, the beauty of the park is enhanced by the Suvarnamukhi stream that runs through the park. These hills spread out to a huge rock at the foot of which is the famous Champaka Dhama Swamy temple, built in the Dravidian style of architecture, belonging to the Hoysala age. The temple enshrines an image of Vishnu with his consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi. At a distance of 2 km away is the Suvarnamukhi water pond whose water is believed to have curative powers.

By Air 

The nearest Airport is the Kempegowda Internatioanal airport in Bengaluru and it is approximately 59km away from the park. From here, you can hire a taxi or take a bus.

By Train 

The Bengaluru railway station is 29km and is well connected to major destinations. From here, you can take the bus to the park.

By Bus 

There are several buses plying from Bengaluru as the Bannerghatta National Park.
