Situated in Ujjain on the side of Rudra Sagar Lake, Mahakaleshwar temple is a famous temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Being one of the sacred sites of one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, it is also one of the most pious and sought pilgrim spots for the Hindus. It is believed to be the divine abodes of Lord Shiva where He is present in the lingam form and derives His power (Shakti) from within, hence also called as Swayambhu. The temple lies among the top 10 temples of Tantra and the only temple of India where the Bhasma Arti is performed each morning to wake the Lord up. Being such a unique temple with such importance, people from all over the world come down to Ujjain to visit this enlightened site.
