The culture of Champakulam is it itself a unique culture which forms an integral part of the Indian culture. Over several centuries, Kerala has been influenced by several other cultures with which it shared trade relations. In AD 52, Christianity was introduced to India as St. Thomas, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus arrived and settled in Kerala. Later in the 7th Century, Islam arrived along with the Arab traders. All these religious beliefs got assimilated with the local beliefs and thoughts and formed a multicultural, diverse and dynamic society. Kerala has the highest literacy rate in India. It is also one of the cleanest states in the country. Although Malayalam is the mother tongue of the people of Champakulam, they also understand English and Hindi up to some extent. Kerala is the hub of the rich dance form named Mohiniattyam and martial art form named Kalaripayattu. One of the most important festivals in Champakulam is their harvest festival called Onam. It is celebrated during the period between August and September. There are several cultural programs organized during the festivals. People decorate their houses with flowers and lights and they themselves dress up in new clothes for the occasion.
