Bhangarh Fort Haunted Stories
There are multiple stories attached with the legend of Bhangarh. Two of the most popular ones are –
Story 1: The Curse of Sage Bala Nath
According to the first story, the fall of Bhangarh started during the reign of a king named Madho Singh. He is the person who is credited for the construction of seven storied Bhangarh fort. He had to attain permission from an ascetic named Bala Nath whose ashram was in the proximity of the fort. Sage Bala Nath raised a condition according to which the shadow of the fort must never fall upon his ashram, otherwise the king was allowed to add as many stories to the fort as he wished to. Everything went fine till the 6th floor of the fort. Bhangarh developed to be a flourishing trade town until the king decided to add one more floor. This was the time when the shadow of the fort started to touch the sage’s ashram and his curse started acting. Soon Bhangarh was razed, the royal family vanished and residents left the town keeping it abandoned till today.
Story 2: An Evil Love Story
The second legend behind haunted Bhangarh fort’s history has met more confirmations from the locals and the history experts. As per this story, it is believed that Princess Ratnavati of Bhangarh was extremely beautiful and the stories of her complexion and appearance where popular all around Rajasthan. A local black magician fell in love after seeing her for the first time. He tried a lot to impress the princess but nothing happened. He finally tried to bewitch a cosmetic that princess used after her bathing ritual. Somehow, she came to know about this conspiracy and poured the cosmetic on a boulder which crushed and killed him to death. Before dying, the magician placed a curse upon the town saying that no soul would ever be able to live in peace there. The town slowly fell from the glory and was abandoned soon after.
According to another version of Bhangarh fort ghost story, it is believed that both sage and the tantrik from first and second story were the same people. This person was killed by the princess when he tried to forcefully abduct her. Many believe that the town was abandoned due to fear of draught; others say that after the death of sage and a massive Earthquake, the residents left to find better living conditions.
Let whatever be the story, Bhangarh Fort is an amazing place with a lot of chances to indulge into history and architecture.
