In the days of the Raj, it used to be a popular tourist destination and was declared as the Summer Capital of British India in the year 1864. Even though the focal point of the town is its centrally located Mall Road, the actual beauty of Shimla can be felt while you are on way to the town on a car, winding along the meandering roads, or moving away from it. This experience is duplicated when you travel to Shimla from Kalka station via the famous toy-train, along an exotic trail and through various stretches of tunnels. The sight of gurgling rapids, local green vegetation and the sight of the distant snow-clad Himalayas will fill up your senses. It will imprint on your mind, compelling you to visit over and over again.

Shopping along the Mall Road in Shimla is another best feature of Shimla holidays. Such is the lure that even non-shopaholics get addicted. The market place offers a wide variety of fares, ranging from clothes, woolens, shoes, accessories and bags. You might have a hard time fighting over zealous shoppers thronging shops and haggling with stoic storekeepers over a good bargain.
