Andaman Marathon – One of the Most Riveting Marathons of India

It’s a beautiful island destination, it’s a tourist hub with buzzing travelers from all over the world, it’s an archipelago of over 300 islands, offering a myriad of activities to do; yet one of the most offbeat and interesting activities to indulge in Andaman has been the Andaman Marathon, organized every year during the month of February. And this year, the most testing run is back with its 2018 instalment and is ready to kickstart in 6 days!

They say being fit is one of the toughest goals to achieve when it comes to human body and discipline and one such sport that really tests your fitness is the marathon. With the Andaman Marathon scheduled for February 18th, 2018, you will be covering a distance of 20km. Organized by the Andaman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, this year’s marathon is organized to portray the beautiful archipelago of Andaman islands as a green and clean destination and put it in the forefront of the global tourism scene. Honorable Lt. Governor Admiral D. K. Joshi, PVSM (Param Vishisht Seva Medal), AVSM (Ati Vishisht Seva Medal), YSM (Yudh Seva Medal), NM (Nausena Medal), VSM (Vishisht Seva Medal) (Retired) will flag this year’s marathon.

How to Take Part in the Andaman Marathon 2018
The registrations for the Andaman Marathon 2018 are now open. There are three categories open for participation – for adults, for senior citizens and for boys and girls – and you can select your appropriate category and register. The prices for registration are Rs. 500, Rs. 300 and Rs. 200 each respectively. When you register, you get a promotional t-shirt and a medical certificate for successful participants. The registration closes on 12th February and you can register easily online.
The Prizes

One of the most rewarding prizes in events like this is the sense of accomplishment that fills your mind after successfully completing the run or even running more than what you had intended for in the first place. However, there are prizes for those who emerge victorious as well. Winners of half marathon will be awarded a prize money of Rs. 60,000 (men) and Rs. 40,000, Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 15,000 for those who complete 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively. For senior citizens, the prize money for winners is Rs. 40,000 and for Rs. 15,000 for 4th runner-up. For boys and girls, the prize money starts at Rs. 10,000 for 4th runner-up and goes up to Rs. 30,000 for winners.
The Route

The marathon is designed to cover the major areas of Port Blair. It starts from the iconic Cellular Jail and ends at Netaji Stadium, covering landmarks like Tsunami memorial, Watersports complex, Ramakrishna Mission, Goal Ghar, Aberdeen Bazaar and more.

How to Reach Andaman
Andaman is well connected by flights from the Indian mainland. You can find frequent flights operated by Air India to Port Blair from some of the major Indian cities like Chennai, Cochin, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and more. You can also reach Andaman by ships that depart from Chennai and Cochin respectively.
