Chittorgarh Fort

Chittorgarh Fort is the most important attraction and is known for its brilliant architecture and the stories attached to it. Chittorgarh, Rajasthan was ruled by a fierce clan of kings who were so brave that they stood against Akbar and Alauddin Khilji’s army. They fended off the attackers thrice and the stories of their incredible feats spread all across Rajasthan. Chittorgarh Fort is situated on top of a hill which overlooks the town ensuring its protection. This massive structure covers almost 700 acres and contains 84 water bodies inside its premises. The Vijay Stambh, Kirti Stambh, Rana Kumbha Palace, Meera mandir are a few of the notable places inside the fort complex.

Kirti Stambh, One of the Best Places to Visit in Chittorgarh
This 12th century tower was constructed inside the fort complex in honor of Adinath Ji, the 1st Jain Tirthankar. The tower is beautifully designed with small figures of all the Digambars. It is a famed attraction among the followers of Jain Religion who come here to pay their respects to the teachers and leaders. The inside of the tower has a steep flight of stairs that goes all the way to the 7th floor and offers impressive views of the nearby areas.
Vijay Stambh
Just like Kirti Stambh, Vijay Stambh is another tall tower that was constructed to celebrate Maharaja Kumbha’s victory over Mohammed Khilji. This tower is here since 1440 AD and has 9 stairs in total. The walls of Vijay Stambh adorn figurines of Hindu deities. The construction style is unique as it reflects the architectural style that must have originated in this region. One can climb to the top of the tower through the stairs. The views from the top floor of the tower are simply breathtaking.
Padmini’s Palace, One of the Popular Places to Visit in Chittorgarh
Padmini’s Palace is located inside the fort complex and is an integral part of Chittorgarh sightseeing. The Palace was the center of the battle between Raja Ratan Singh and Alauddin Khilji. It is beautifully constructed as the official residence of Queen Padmini, fondly known as Padmawati among her subjects. The Palace is situated in the middle of the water. A path through a beautiful garden goes in the room where it is said that Alauddin Khilji was granted to have a glance of the beautiful queen. Padmini’s Palace offers a journey into the history of these kings and queens and is one of the most notable places in the town of Chittorgarh.
Jauhar Kund, One of the Prominent Places to Visit in Chittorgarh
Just like Padmini Palace, Jauhar Kund holds a vital place in the history of Chittorgarh. When Allauddin Khilji attacked Chittorgarh in 1303 and killed Rana Ratan Singh, it was the queens and her consorts who performed Johar here to save their dignity. Again, when the Mughals captured Chittorgarh, the royal women committed Johar to protect themselves from any mistreatment that the army would enforce upon them. The vast pyre where women jumped into the fire was called Jauhar Kund.
Rana Kumbha Palace
While it lies in ruins, the mere sight of Rana Kumbha’s Palace will give you an idea about how massive and imposing this structure must have been. This Palace was the residence of critical royal personalities of Chittorgarh and was the witness to the politics and power struggles that happened inside the premises. Bappa Rawal, Maharana Kumbha, and Princess Meera Bai lived here and added layers upon layers of history to be attached with this Palace as time went by.
