Rann Utsav: A Definite Must For Culture Vultures

As part of the Thar Desert, the Rann of Kutch has a striking contrast to the golden sand dunes of Rajasthan. This snow white salt marsh offers one of the most spectacular experiences and the white sands of Kutch will surely leave you mesmerised! The beauty of the land is also reflected in the culture of the region. Inhabited by the Kutchi’s of Gujarat, the tradition, culture, food, music, dance forms and hospitality paints a colourful picture upon a beautiful white canvas. To celebrate this vivid culture, the Gujarat Government annually organises The Rann Utsav.
The Rann Utsav is one of the famous festivals of India which begins in the month of November and ends in February. We bring to you the very best of this cultural event.
Here Are Our Outtakes of Rann Utsav – 2019:
1. Live in Tents

The village of Dhordo transforms itself into a tent city during the festival. All excitement of the Rann Utsav lies in the experience of spending a few days in a tent! You can enjoy the entire festival right from the porch of your tent. With various tent accommodation options available, there is something to suit your budget.
2. For the Love of Food

Guajarati’s love their food! This vivid cultural festival offers some delectable food choices. Enjoy a hearty Gujarati meal comprising of khichdi, kadi, and rotla which is enjoyed with some pickle on the side. Satisfy your sweet tooth by indulging in jalebis and dudhpak. The variety of food options does not end here, there is always a little extra food in Gujarat.

3. Traditional Craft & Art

The Gujarat Tourism Board makes the very best of the Rann Utsav. It uses the festival as a platform to promote regional and traditional art forms. The Utsav is home to weaving, patchwork, block printing, bandhani, tie-and-dye, rogan-art and other ethnic art styles. You can spend hours walking through the stalls that are decorated with beautiful traditional art. The festival gives you an opportunity to visit some local villages, to witness artisans in all their glory. Head to the tiny village of Nirona to see the Rogan Art born out of skilled hands.

4. A Night to Remember
Don your warmest clothes and head to the cultural arena for an unforgettable night. The cultural night show is an ensemble of talented musicians, dancers, comedians and puppeteers. Swoon to the melodious Kutchi music and enjoy the spectacular dance programme arranged for your entertainment. Once the cultural programme concludes, head to the star gazing area to lose yourself in the twinkling stars.
5. Discovering the beauty of Gujarat

At Kalo Dungar you will get a chance to see a panoramic view of the Rann as you head to the highest peak in Kutch.

Located on the banks of the Rukmavati River, lies Mandvi Beach. Blessed with a serene and beautiful shoreline, this beach is ideal to spend a few peaceful hours gazing into the wide sea.
