The third Sunday of June is almost here, and you know what that means. Father’s Day is at your door, and you still don’t know what you want to gift your Dad.
Here’s a thought! Why not dedicate an entire trip instead of just one day this Father’s Day? At Thomas Cook, we believe in taking celebrations to the next level. You’ll find every kind of trip, on our site, to tempt your dad – whether he’s a fishing fanatic, a wildlife buff or prefers to spend his vacation lazing on the beach.
Take a look at some of our plans and take your pick from among them.
Go Fishing with Your Dad on this Father’s Day

This one is for the fishing enthusiasts. What’s a better way to treat your dad then taking him on a fishing trip? And the Indian peninsula is the best place to plan your fishing adventures. Surrounded by the sea on three sides and with abundant rivers flowing through the land, India is a great locale with exotic specimens for your “big catch”.
The serene waters of the Ramganga River flowing through the Jim Corbett National Park are the home to Mahseer, considered to be the best sports fish in the world. Other freshwater finds of the river are goonch and brown trout. A popular spot for fishing fans, you will need a license from the Divisional Forest Officer to try your luck here. Another great place to try your hand at fishing is at the confluence of the Mahakali and Saryu rivers. The Pancheshwar Fishing Retreat is also home to the Mahseer and the International Angling Competition is a crowd-gatherer every March. You could also test your fishing skills at the Jia Bhoroli River, Assam or Pabbar Valley, Himachal Pradesh. So, pack your equipment and get going now!
Learn the Ways of the Wild

If your dad is an animal lover, then a wildlife safari is your best bet this Father’s Day. And the words Big Five might just bring out his inner child. Just in case you might not have heard of this term, the Big Five are Africa’s most dangerous animals to hunt on foot, a name coined for them by big-game hunters. However, the name lingers (without the hunting connotation) for the lions, leopards, rhinoceroses, elephants and Cape buffalos in the African Savanna. And your safari won’t be limited to just these, you will also have the chance to witness lithe zebras and giraffes and cunning cheetahs in their habitat. And what could be a better place to test your photography skills than the wild? So, ask your dad to get his camera out and gift him his childhood dream. If you want to visit a place closer to home, Jim Corbett National Park is the place to be. Home to around 600 species of birds, along with animals and reptiles like the tiger, leopard, elephant, otter and gharial, this place is a favourite among wildlife lovers. So, treat your dad to the best that Mother Nature has to offer and plan with Thomas Cook for the best safari ever
A Religious Expedition

This isn’t just a gift for the day – it’s one for a lifetime. The trip we reference gives your dad a chance to attain Moksha. Enshrined in the Hindu mythology is the belief that if one completes the Char Dham Yatra, that person has washed away all their bad karma and will attain salvation after death. The Char Dham Yatra is a pilgrimage to the four holy abodes Badrinath, Kedarnath, Yamunotri and Gangotri at Uttarakhand. Yamunotri is believed to be the source of the Yamuna river and is the first Dham on the Yatra. Your next stop will be Gangotri which is the origin of the Ganga – the holiest river of our country. A journey with one of the most scenic views which will be difficult to find anywhere else in the world. Then comes the 14 km trek to Kedarnath – an expedition which will make you feel you are in another world. Resting among the mountains with the Himalayan ranges flanking it on both sides, the Kedarnath Temple is considered to be the abode of Lord Shiva. Following this is Badrinath, the holy abode of Lord Vishnu. A major attraction of this locale is Mana Cave, where it is believed that Lord Vyasa wrote the Mahabharata.
Mountains & Beaches

Getting away from the restlessness of the city life to take in the fresh air among nature is an ideal plan for so many of us, and it might just be the best gift for your father this year. Plan a trip to the mountains of Ladakh where you will be surrounded by the jaw-dropping Himalayas. The charming monasteries you’ll find along the way are spiritual havens for your soul. Another destination for your holiday is the Queen of Hills, Mussoorie. Breath-taking landscapes and the peaceful ambience make it one of the best locations for a languid break. And if the ocean is where your dad would rather be, he can take his pick from all that the world has to offer. Take a trip to the Anadaman and Nicobar Islands where you will experience some of the best that nature has to offer you. Get a chance to witness the bioluminescence at Havelock Island or try scuba diving at Port Blair. This is nature – unfiltered, unvarnished and unmatched in its beauty.

Camping

Get back to the basics with your dad this Father’s Day by taking him camping. Imagine pitching up a tent in the wilderness with you and your Dad against the elements. What could be a better way to get to know your father really? With our country’s diverse and amazing landscape, it is no surprise that there is no shortage of camp sites in the country. One of the best locations for a night under the stars is Spiti Valley. Nestled in the Keylong district, it is an ideal respite against the sun. Stunning vistas and calm lakes await you in this marvellous idyll. Another stunning location for your special camping trip is the desert of Rajasthan. Head to Jaisalmer and choose from among the various camp sites it has to offer.
