Japan Travel Guidelines

  • Can Indian travel to the Japan?
  • NO but selectively.
  • Japan has currently suspended all the travel from India till further notice. This doesn’t apply to Japanese Nationals and Resident Card holders.

  • Eligibilty
  • For entry of Indians into Japan
  • No new visas will be issued by the Embassy/Consulates of Japan in India with immediate effect.
  • After 04 January 2021, entry into Japan will not be allowed for even those who already have visas.
  • Those who have returned from Japan temporarily and hold re-entry permits can travel back to Japan as of now.
  • For emergency or exceptional cases, guidelines will follow in due course of time.
  • RT-PCR negative report before boarding, followed by RT-PCR test on landing in Japan, is mandatory for all now.
  • 14 days self-quarantine is mandatory, and is to be strictly followed.
  • For return or departure from Japan
  • All measures (flight landing/quarantine/PCR, etc) as laid down by Government of India will apply.
  • Those who wish to travel back to India from Japan temporarily must take re-entry permit without fail.
  • Availability of flights will depend on the airlines and landing permission.
  • Given the emerging situation, it is recommended that people should consider travelling only if it is entirely unavoidable.
  • From India to Japan
  • Travel is open for stranded nationals/residents of Japan and foreign nationals holding valid Japanese visas subject to the border measures and travel restrictions imposed by the government of Japan at the time of travel.
  • Any Indian national holding any type of valid visa from Japan subject to the border measures and travel restrictions imposed by the government of Japan at the time of travel.
  • From Japan to India
  • i. Stranded Indian nationals;
  • ii. All Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders holding passports of Japan;
  • iii. Foreigners (including diplomats), holding valid visa issued by an Indian Mission in any category covered under Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) guidelines dated 30.06.2020 as amended from time to time.

  • Passenger Obligation
  • Those eligible to enter Japan must have a place to stay in Japan and a means of transportation (other than public transportation) from the airport to place of stay.

  • Travellers who do not have a residence or hotel booking upon arrival in Japan will be required to stay in a facility provided by Quarantine Health Ofcials until PCR test results arrive.

  • Quarantine Protocol
  • Mandatory quarantine duration for Indians: 14 Days

  • Mandatory Quarantine & Testing Rules
  • On arriving, all passengers must quarantine at their declared place of stay for 14 days. Also, they can’t take public transport from airport to place of stay, so an alternate means of transportation must be arranged. This quarantine will be mandatory even for those passengers who carry a negative test report with them during their travel.
  • All passengers arriving from certain high-risk countries (immigration counter at airport will have full list) will be asked to undergo a Covid-19 test.
