Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary in Kerala

Spread across 14 acres land, this bird sanctuary was established to preserve coconut trees and mandrakes which are the natural habitat for birds. This refuge located in the Kottayam district on the banks of Vembanad Lake of Kerala is home to numerous species of birds. Many migratory birds from regions like Siberia. The other species include waterfowl, water ducks, herons, owls, egrets, Siberian cranes and cuckoos. There are also many paradise fly-catchers, kingfishers, woodpeckers and night herons in the park. This place is a paradise for all the bird watchers.

How to reach: You can reach the sanctuary via road, by hiring a taxi or by driving on your own on the Kottayam- Kumarakom Road.
