Bangkok is famous for the innumerable temples dotted across the city that seem to share space alongside modern skyscrapers. The most sacred is the majestic Wat Phra Kaew housed within the Grand Palace. This temple is home to Thailand’s sacred Buddha, the Emerald Buddha.
The eye-catching Wat Arun on the banks of the Chao Praya River is decorated with porcelain and is about 80 mts high. Wat Pho is the oldest of all temples in the city and is home to the famous reclining Buddha. Wat Pho is also reputed to be the birthplace of Thai massage. Wat Saket is another ancient temple restored by the former royals of Thailand.
Notable for its golden stupa, the temple is used for burial and cremation. Wat Benchamabophit, made of marble and golden carving is one of the most beautiful temples and most visited by tourists. The Wat Mahathat is among the older temples and is home to one of the oldest monasteries in the country.
