Those travellers who prefers to have an adventurous time in Skagway can enjoy backpacking hike. The Hike to the Chilkoot Trail begins about nine miles just out of town in Dyea, which is the highway to the Klondike. There is a 33-mile climb up and over the ‘Golden Stairs’ which was made popular in Charlie Chaplin’s silent film, “The Gold Rush,” and it takes visitors on the ‘stampeders’ route to the historic gold mines. On an average the trek takes five days to complete and it also requires a permit to cross the border.
