BirdLife International has designated this Island as an Important Bird Area because this place has a huge significance as an area for breeding for the indigenous seabirds. No ownder it is a heaven for any bird lover. There is a presence of a large number of avian species here. Between1978 and 79, the researchers have approximately estimated as many as 117,000 breeding penguins on this island. Nyroysa is among the more important colony for island’s penguins and is complemented by Posadowskybreen, Norvegiaodden, KappCirconcision and across from Larsoya. Among the more popular avian species inhabiting the island, Southern fulmar could be counted amongst the most common bird, aside from the penguins, that has a surprisingly higher count- of as many asa whopping 100,000.
