If you want to come by train there are numerous options. There are many different trains that come into the city from Bangalore and Chennai. One of the fastest options for that route is the Shatabdi Express and it takes 2 hours from Bangalore and 7 from Chennai. There are other local trains that will come into the city from Banglore and make sure you are catching the right train
There are quite a few options about how to get to the city, including train, bus, car, plane and even by bike. If you want to fly into the city you will first need to fly into Bangalore and from there you can take one of the flights from SpiceJet that run every day
If you are coming by bus you should first arrive in Bangalore and then catch a bus from of the major bus stands. One of the best lines to take is the KSRTC or the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation and they even have luxury Volvo buses that will go. If you are driving to the city, you should come from Bangalore, which is 150 kilometers away. The trip should take around 3 1/2 hours on SH-17. However, this is not the most ideal way to travel because of the many speed bumps and other road markers that are not properly marked. You can also bike from Bangalore if you are into that. The route would be Bangalore, Ramnagaram, Maddur, Mandya, Srirangapatna and finally Mysore
