Transportation in seychelles

Commutation within Seychelles

Getting around Seychelles is not at all a matter of concern. With 453 km. of roadways, seaports and airports Seychelles is well connected and commutation depends primarily on the place of stay. Mahe and Praslin Islands have an exceptional bus service while it’s more convenient to hire a bicycle in La Digue. Ox-carts can also be an adventurous way of transport in La Digue. Taxis are also readily available on Praslin and Mahe. Island hopping can be done by ferries or by air. Air Seychelles and helicopters can help you fly to the next island of your choice. Buses The Seychelles Public Transport Corporation(STPC) provides excellent public transport in the principal islands of Mahe and Praslin. It operates over a network of 41routes and 1100 trips daily. The bus services are available from 5:30am to 8:30pm everyday. The cost of travel is 5 SCR per trip and 10 SCR for an AC travel. Car Hires Commuting within Mahe is easier if you have taken a car on hire. It’s a little tricky to ride in Mahe due to the steep roads and turns but it’s easier and you don’t have to wait for a bus. You have to drive on the left side of the road. To be a little cautious and to drive slowly can be the key way to drive safe. You do not require an international license to drive in Seychelles. A car on hire would cost you around 500-600 SCR a day. Taxis Taxis can be a bit expensive in Mahe and Praslin but if you can’t find another mode of transport it’s better to look for a metered one. There is no single taxi company. Taxis are plied by independent owners. You can call a driver or haul one from the busy streets of Victoria. The taxis cost 19SCR for the first km and thereafter 6SCR for each additional km. Bicycles Bicycles are available on hire and can be one of the most beautiful ways of going around Praslin and La Digue. Planes Air Seychelles ply between Mahe and Praslin every hour and takes around 15 minutes approximately. They depart from the domestic terminal in Seychelles International Airport (SEZ) to Praslin Airport on the island’s north-west coast. You can also avail charters from the Islands Development Company to go to the outer island.Zil Air offers luxurious helicopters to the inner islands but this is expensive and prices start at 4,715SCR per person. Ferries The Inter-Island Ferry Services can transport 150 passengers in their new catamaran. It takes around 15 minutes to reach La Digue from Praslin and is much cheaper than flight services. A return fare would cost you around 368SCR per person. Cat Cocos have two huge catamarans plying from Mahe to Praslin and from Mahe to La Digue. The “Iles of Praslin” has a capacity of 350 and takes an hour to reach Praslin from Mahe. It has 3 onboard classes: Economy Main Lower, Economy Upper Deck and Business Class. The catamaran has a snack bar, video screenings and a souvenir boutique. The “Cat coco Isle of La Digue” on the other hand has a capacity of 227. It has a business class and island hoppers. Both the classes are on the upper deck of the boat.
