In fact, the journey time from Sydney to Melbourne is 9 hours and to Perth, it’s 41 hours! However, do bear in mind that if you’re travelling around Sydney by road, make sure you’re insured. A four-wheel drive is your best option to travel along the highways.
Travelling by flight is one of the best ways to reach Sydney from India. Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport is the busiest airports in Australia and is also said to be one of the oldest commercial airports in the world. It is connected to all the major cities in the world with flights operating regularly. From India too, there are various flights from all the major cities to Sydney. The flying time from New Delhi to Sydney is 13 hours 27 minutes and the only non-stop flight from New Delhi to Sydney is with Air India, which offers five flights in a week. There are numerous connecting flights from various other carriers too such as Thai, Cathay and Australia’s own Qantas Airlines. Do note that there can be some delays if the weather is unsuitable. The Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport is located in Southern Sydney on Botany Bay.
Travelling to Sydney by sea is not a viable option as there are no direct cruises that take you there from India. However, if you are coming from other countries such as New Zealand or the Pacific Islands, then you can book a cruise to Sydney.
There are no trains to Sydney from other countries but within Australia, it is possible to travel to Sydney from other cities such as Melbourne, Canberra or Brisbane. There are long distance commuter trains that link Sydney with other cities and are economical as well. Travelling between Sydney and Perth can be accomplished by the Indian Pacific train which is a luxury train that takes four days to complete the journey. While it’s certainly quite costly, it includes meals, excursions and other activities and is a once in a lifetime experience for many people.
Domestic flights from Sydney are aplenty if you want to travel to other cities nearby. There are various domestic airlines that cater to travellers who wish to travel to and from Sydney. Cities like Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra etc are well-connected to Sydney thanks to numerous budget airlines such as TigerAir and others.
