The national monument of Norway, Haraldshaugen, is located in the town of Haugesund. According to Snorre’s Sagas of the Kings, this is the site where Harald Fairhair remains buried and it rose to prominence in the 19th century. The monument which was established in the year 1872 does not merely possess historical connotations but has political relevance as well, being a testament to the unification of Norway into a single kingdom. The monument is situated 2 km to the north of the town center.

The Trondenes Fort outside Harstad was erected by the Germans at the time of World War II. The site is currently a military installation and offers guided tours to visitors.

The lighthouse at Lindesnes represents the southernmost point of Norway and remains open throughout the year. The lighthouse – the oldest in Norway – acts as a museum and highlights the importance of the ocean. There are various legends about the lighthouse and seawater is used in various items sold at the site, including schnapps and soap. You have to try the lighthouse bread at Lindesnes, made from seaweed and seawater. Accommodation and food are easily available at the site.

Among the different religious places in Norway, foremost is the Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim. It is famous as the biggest medieval building in Scandinavia as well as the most significant church in entire Norway. Founded in 1066, it has become a must-visit pilgrimage site, owing to the relics of St. Olav, a Norwegian king, and a national hero.
