How to reach Himachal Pradesh
You can also look at reaching Himachal by road. Himachal is one of the most serene places for a road trip and you can either take your own car or hire a cab from New Delhi. However, if you intend to take a bus, it’s not just the easiest way to reach Himachal but a time consuming one too. Though buses ply from New Delhi, Kashmiri Gate ISBT, on a daily basis, they take close to 10 hours to drop you at Shimla ISBT. Buses have multiple stops on the way and can get really risky during the winters and monsoons. Buses are only available from New Delhi.
Duration of travel:
10 hours from New Delhi to Shimla, 12 hours to Dharamsala and Dalhousie. No bus connectivity to Spiti.
Cost Per Person:
Depending on the luxury of the bus – semi-sleeper, AC sleeper, multi-axle Volvo and more – the price tends to increase. On an average, an AC-Seater will cost you around Rs. 1000 and a sleeper around Rs. 1,500.
How to travel by road:
You can reach New Delhi bus terminal and get a bus to your preferred destination in Himachal. There are both private buses and Himachal government run buses that will take you to your destination. While private buses are more reliable and expensive, you can prefer the government buses priced at around Rs. 400 to Rs. 600 if you’re traveling on a shoe string budget. All the buses go via Punjab and Chandigarh to Himachal. If you’re driving by yourself from New Delhi, that’s the ideal route you should take as well. Also, if you plan to take a car, we suggest you reach Himachal and then hire cab services as it will turn out to be less expensive. Lastly, remember that there are other best ways to reach Himachal and not just road.
