Places to visit in Honduras

These are the ruins of the 17th century fortress built by the Spanish to defendthemselves again European invasions. There is a museum of weaponry here; you will find 15 canons facing the sea and a plaque remembering the execution of WilliamWalker, a US adventurer.

The architecture of these only Mayan ruins in the country is not very impressive but the realbeauty lies in it details. The stone carvings are amazing. The site is home to many royal palaces, low pyramids, a number of plazas and ball courts. The impressivemuseum is definitely a must see.

This 18thcentury fortress was built by a Spanish king and it offers an interesting visit to the small museum here. This museumhas 31 rooms and a view of the cannons facing the coast.

This is located in the San Pedro Sula region. The area around the lake has plenty of natural sights. Spot Macaw roaming freely here, go behind the Pulhapanzak waterfalls to explore cave where you can even swim in cool rock pools. Go for hiking in the nearby Cerro Azul Meamby Park or relax on a row boat or even on a sailboat here.

Just 2.5 km outof town of Copan is situated a private reserve dedicated to Macaws. Visitthis centre as you will be welcomed bythese bird and let them calmly sit on your shoulder or hands.

In La Ceiba, there is an annual carnival of friendship celebrate for a week withmusic, specialfood and different types of exhibitions.

People here take the holy week seriously and the highlight of this is the creation of sawdust carpets, symbolic of the trail that Jesus will take towards crucifixion. These trials are a sight to behold with different decorative motifs.
