Traditional Kutch music fills your ears and a burst of colours against the white backdrop of the milky desert is a feast for your eyes. The Great Rann Utsav fascinates all five senses in unison. The clear, blue sky is painted with thin strokes of orange and yellow as the day goes by.

This festival is a celebration of the very essence of Kutch and its people. When the light of the Moon falls on the land of White Rann, Whole Rann Sparkle like a Diamond. The glimmering moonlight gives you a sense of comfort as the eerie chill of the night-time creeps up to you. This is one of the many beautiful things you can not miss in Rann Utsav.

When fun became a tradition

The Rann Utsav has been attracting tourists from all over the globe, giving them a taste of the local cuisine, culture, people and various sights of the Rann. Initiated by the Government of Gujarat to promote tourism in 2006, this festival is celebrated in the month of November and lasts for a total of three months. Rann Utsav is an abundance of colours, a spectacle of art forms and an overdose of nature. The many smiles of the people who come from all walks of life radiate warmth in the dreary winter and paint the white canvas of Rann with all kinds of colours. Starting off in Bhuj, the finale of the festival takes place at Rann Utsav tent city near Dhordo, comprising of nearly 400 air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned tents.

The Kutch culture and livelihood thrives on traditional and intricate handicrafts that you will witness during the course of the festival. Not just the tourists but the Rann Utsav manages to take the breath away of the very locals residing there, each year! Authentic homestays welcome tourists with open arms to give them a taste life in Kutch. Mesmerising music fills the air with the versatile and soulful voices of the many folk artists coming from various parts of the state.

Rann of Kutch - Where magic and moonlight mix

India’s largest salt desert is located in the Kutch district of Western Gujarat. Rann is translated to desert in Hindi and is home to Hindus, Muslims, Jains and Sikhs.
